We convert our photography studio into a mini theatre for the evening. The last event had approximately 75 people in attendance, and the crowd was really enthusiastic and supportive of  everything that was shown that evening during the Q&A with the filmmakers between rounds.

This month we’re bringing back the star of the very first Shoot The Band. It’s time to feature the man doing good in the neighborhood again. He’s a poet, rapper, and really into action choreography, so let’s take advantage of that.

From the man himself: Hello, my name is Da’Shade Moonbeam. I am an Artist that is too big to be boxed in or Self-Catagorized. I believe that I am the Sexiest Nerd on the Planet. Nice to meet you. Please take a moment to brace yourself before peering into my enigmatic world.

You provide:
Your camera, posing ideas, 8 usable promo photos for the band.

Participation Agreement:
Photos from this shoot are for promotional purposes ONLY. Request and negotiate a model release from the band if you feel you need one. This is not provided by the meetup. The band must retain the photographer’s credit on any images used.

By participating in this shoot you do solemnly swear to:
1. Upload (a minimum of) 8 retouched quality photos to the designated meetup gallery
2. Upload your photos by May 11, 2013
3. Grant the band permission to use uploaded photos for promotional purposes only (photo specs are 300 dpi, 8×10 inches minimum) Your photos may be watermarked and meta tagged
4. Supplying the band with photos from the session is a stipulation to attend Shoot The Band in the future.

Shooting protocol:
We shoot in rotation, one at a time. Time is divided evenly among attending photographers / per setup.

All levels welcomed, we even help newbies learn strobe basics. We throw one of these every month, they’re always a big hit with great networking opportunities. Juju is not able to supply alcohol, but BYOB is perfectly acceptable, munchies provided.

Join us for some this creative walkabout, shoot with your phone.
It’s not what you shoot with, it’s what you say. We take a model on the east side streets and try to emulate a magazine spread using smartphone apps like hipstamatic and instagram, pic grunger, lens babies, etc. (no DSLR please) Promo only model release provided. On our last outting we got a lot of attention on the street, and it turned out to be a very spontaneous experience. Everyone was wondering who the famous model was.

The goal is to:

• promote edgier, more gestural photography
• test the abilities and push the parameters of “lo-fi” technology
• gather confidence in numbers to shoot in public
• encourage people to shoot even if they don’t own top of the line cameras
• make you a more spontaneous, sociable person, dammit.

Miss Galactic has performed at the Texas Burlesque Festival, the San Antonio Burlesque Festival, and the Spanksgiving Burlesque Festival, as well as in productions by the Bat City Bombshells, the Jigglewatts, Ginger Snaps, Delia Dread, and Sabra johnSin. She’s graced the stages of Antone’s, the Highball, the Parish, the ND, and Maggie Mae’s Gibson Lounge. We will also have an incredible guest speaker! The writer, director, producer and editor of the feature film, “Generation Me”, will be in attendance along with some of her cast and crew. Ericka Marsalis-LaManna will be there just for YOU, so pick her brain!

about the austin art photography group
Austin Art Photography was founded by Ricardo Acevedo of R/aWorks Creative in February of 2012 with the intent of creating a collective of a vast range of fellow creatives in the photographic field. Formed earlier this year it is still in fledgling form but is rapidly expanding it’s wings. Serving as an arena for peers to bounce ideas, questions and new work off of each other they gather motivation, insight and knowledge of an evolving medium in which each is passionate about. There are many lenses through which life can be viewed and each individual brings their perspective in the raw, gritty, somber, vibrant, soothing, shocking and clear voice of their own.

Diversity of technique, style and vision is quickly evident within the group. We encompass everyone from highly skilled professionals with many years of experience to those just starting out and those in between. Austin Art Photography is not just a group of photographers who just happen to be exhibiting our work together, we are a group that supports each other in the differences within the art. As Oscar Wilde said, “Art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world has known. ” Our cameras are the common denominator with which we choose to speak, what we each have to say is quite varied though.

Optics is an invitation to foray into the printed form of light and vision as seen by each artist as they have continuously strived for further culmination within their own body of work. What will grab your eye? Will it be the sublime, the surreal, the scenic?…Stop in to view the kaleidoscopic array offered, a veritable playground for your eyes and mind awaits.

The East Austin Studio Tour is a self-guided tour and celebration of east Austin’s creative culture. E.A.S.T is a free nine day event, spanning across two weekends. The tour is an annual tradition and opportunity to explore the vibrant energy of east Austin, the work of hundreds of artists in their studios, gallery spaces, and a number of exciting art events.

The Look, Set, and Props

The look for this shoot will be Ska fashion featuring Jinxedaposed clothing. Ska is a music genre that originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s and was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae. Ska combined elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues notable for its shuffling, scratch-like tempo and jazz-like horn riffs on the offbeat. It is It is often associated with checkers.

Jinxedaposed creates a non gender specific clothing and accessory line in order to serve the needs of the eclectic and fashionably creative. Designers include Jinxy and Ashley Bingham. Jinxedaposed has been featured in countless fashion shows in Houston, Dallas, Boston, Austin and is a seasonal participant during NYFC Connect’s fashion shows during New York Fashion Week. She also won RAWards Texas Fashion Designer of the Year 2011. In September Jinxy presented this current collection in Plitzs New York City Fashion Week 2012.
